How to Calculate Area of Column Footing

Load (P) = 2000 kN

Column size = 400 mm x 400 mm

Soil Bearing Capacity = 150 kN/m²

Footing area for the column

Add ten percent of load

= 0.1 x 2000 = 200 kN

Hence, total load = 2000 kN + 200 kN = 2200 kN

Formula for footing area = Increased Load/Soil Bearing Capacity

Area = 2200/150 = 14.66 m²

Let’s find side of square column footing = √14.66 = 3.82 m = 4 m must be each side of this column footing size.
