How to Calculate Cement Sand & Aggregate Quantity in Concrete

In order to calculate concrete quantity, we need to know how volume is calculated. In order to calculate volume of rectangular cuboid, it is best to use formula L x B x H which gives the value in unit3.

For a circular column, its volume can be calculated by using formula πr2h which will also give volume in unit3.

Let’s talk about concrete grade ratio.

For M10 – 1 part of cement, 3 part of sand 6 part of aggregate
For M 15 – 1 part of cement, 2 part of sand and 4 part of aggregate
For M20 – 1 part of cement, 1.5 part of sand and 3 part of aggregate
For M25 – 1 part of cement, 1 part of sand and 2 part of aggregate

Density of materials

Cement – 1440 kg/m3
Dry Sand – 1540 to 1600 kg/m3
Aggregate – 1560 to 1600 kg/m3

Wet to Dry Conversion

Dry Volume = Wet Volume + 54% of wet volume Dry Volume = Wet Volume x 1.54

How to calculate quantity for 10 cubic meter concrete

We have been given Grade – M15 and we have to calculate the quantity of cement, sand and aggregate in cft, cum and kg.
Volume = 10 cubic meter
This is wet volume, so we need to convert it into dry volume.

Dry volume = wet volume x 1.54 = 10 x 1.54 = 15.4 cubic meter
We know that the ratio for M15 is 1:2:4
Actual volume = Dry volume/Sum of M15 ratio = 15.4/1 + 2 + 4 = 2.2 cubic meter

Now we must talk about cement:

Actual volume x cement ratio = 2.2 x 1 = 2.2 cubic meter
Actual volume x cement ratio x 35.32 = 2.2 x 1 x 35.31 = 77.68 cubic feet
Actual volume x cement ratio x density = 2.2 x 1 x 1440 = 3168 kg
Actual volume x cement ratio x 28.8 = 2.2 x 1 x 28.8 = 63.36 bag

Now let us calculate sand and aggregate quantity
Actual volume x sand ratio = 2.2 x 2 = 4.4 cubic meter
Actual volume x sand ratio x 35.31 = 155.36 cubic feet
Actual volume x sand ratio x density = 2.2 x 2 x 1540 = 6776 kg

For Aggregate:

Actual volume x Aggregate ratio x 35.31 = 2.2 x 4 x 35.31 = 310 cubic feet
Actual volume x Aggregate ratio x density = 2.2 x 4 x 1600 = 14080 kg

Actual volume x Aggregate ratio = 2.2 x 4 = 8.8 cubic meter
