How to Calculate Quantity of Bricks, Cement, Sand, Crushed Stone, Lime and Glue for Construction

A material statement is prepared for the specified activities.

  • 400 ft3 concrete work (1:6:12)
  • 850 sft which is ¾‘’thick cement plaster (1:5)
  • 850 sft3 coats white washing
  • 1200 cft brickwork in cement mortar (1:5)

After estimation of a project material statements are noted down into a table. That table exhibits quantities of materials and provides info about quantity of materials anticipated to be utilized in the project.

Material statement is actually a table in which all the material quantities are labeled.

Specified underneath, stepwise procedures:

Wet concrete = 400 ft3
Convert into dry concrete,
Dry concrete = 400 x 1.54 = 616 ft3
Cement for concrete = 1/Ratio sum x Dry concrete = 1/19 x 616 = 32.42 ft3
Volume of one cement bag = 1.25 ft3

Therefore,
32.42 ft3/1.25 ft3 = 25.94 bags
Sand for concrete = 6 x 32.42 ft3 = 194.53 ft3
Coarse aggregate or crushed stone for concrete = 12 x 32.42 ft3 = 389 cft

Wet plaster = 850 sft x 0.0625 = 53.125 ft3
(3/4” = 0.75” or 0.75/12 = 0.0625 ft)
Dry plaster = 1.27 x 53.125 cft = 67.47 ft3
Quantity of cement for plaster = 1/6 x 67.47 = 11.25 ft3

Also, 11.25 ft3/1.25 ft3 = 9 bags
Sand for plaster = 5 x 11.25 ft3 = 56.25 ft3

Lime and gum table for 100 sft work

Lime and gum for 100 sft
Coat Number Lime lbs Lime kg Gum lbs Gum kg
1 4 2 0.13 0.06
2 5.6 2.8 0.13 0.06
3 7 3.3 0.25 0.12

Unslaked lime = 7 lbs/100 sft x 850 sft = 59.50 lbs
Gum quantity = 0.25 lbs/100 sft x 850 sft = 2.125 lbs
Number of bricks = 13.5 x Quantity of brickwork = 13.5 x 1200 = 16200

13.5 bricks are used or put in 1 cft
Dry cement mortar = 30 cft/100 cft brickwork x 1200 cft = 360 cft
Important: 30 cft dry mortar can be different as per the work
Quantity of cement = 1/6 x 360 = 60 ft3

Hence, 60 ft3/volume of 1 cement bag = 60 ft3/1.25 ft3 = 48 bags
Quantity of sand = 5 x 60 ft3= 300 cft
