Long wall and short wall method in Estimating and Costing

Long wall and short wall methods are appropriate for load bearing structure as with the application of long wall and short wall; we can create complete estimation of the building as per the planning.

There is an important thing in long wall and short wall method and that is the computation and it (calculation) must be proper. In this method, one needs to form a table as displayed below. This method is appropriate where there is no column, i.e., brick construction.

In centreline plan, there’re two numbers or quantities of long wall L1 and one number or quantity of L2. There’re three numbers or quantities of S1 and two numbers or quantities of S2. We’ve taken centre to centre distance. We need to draw a table.

S. No. Particulars Numbers / Quantities Length (centre to centre) Breadth Depth / Height Quantity / Result Overall Amount / Quantity
A Earthwork in foundation
Long wall 1 = 3.23 + 3.73 + excavated area = 6.96 + 1 = 7.96 2 7.96 1 1.2 (addition from ground level to bottom) 19.104 m3[2 x 7.96 x 1 x 1.2]
Long wall 2 = 4.23 + 1 = 5.23 1 5.23 1 1.2 6.276 m3
Short wall 1 = 4.23 – 1 = 3.23 [subtract outer most / excavation] 3 3.23 1 1.2 11.628 m3
Short wall 1 = 3.73 – 1 = 2.73 2 2.73 1 1.2 6.552 m3
43.560 m3 Excavation in the plan to put foundation (addition)

Plain cement concrete height is 0.15 and length is 1000.
