Some important thumb rules for making the layout of any Column

Instructions to be adhered and implemented for building A column layout is prepared as per the subsequent guidelines:

The layout of columns must be prepared with reference to the overall forces functioning on the building.

Least Size/magnitude of RCC columns: The size/ magnitude of the columns is on the basis of the overall loads functioning on the columns which go from lateral loads and axial loads. Furthermore, larger beam distances result in bending moment in the columns and in beams which are brought/drawn through the stresses in the beams.

To implement the general guideline, assume a building of G plus 1 floors elevated, along with usual six″ walls. Minimum size/dimension of a RCC column must not be below 9” x 12” [225 mm x 300 mm] along with four bars of twelve MM Fe415 Steel.

The measurement of the column must be 9″ x 12″ [225 mm x 300mm] along with six bars of 12 MM Fe500 steel. Furthermore, it is suggested to use M20 grade concrete for the building (ratio one portion/part Cement: one point five portions/parts Sand: three portions/parts Aggregate with zero point five portions/parts water by volume).

It is even recommended to use 8 MM stirrups at a distance of 150 MM centre to centre throughout the column length. The arrangement of 9″ x 12″ RCC columns is specified/secured for G plus 1 Floors.

Spans [distance] amid 2 columns: To set up the higher column, a span of equal to five meters must be kept. It’s recommended to utilize beams of size/dimension 9″ X 12″ [225 MM x 300 MM] possessing a slab thickness of five″ [125 MM] cast in M20 concrete for distances equal to five m.

Certain additional aspects such as secondary and post-secondary/tertiary distances, wall loads and point loads which must even be considered. The guidelines may be helpful when the building is simple.
