How to Calculate Quantity of Soil/Sand for Filling Plot

Considering construction works, a plain surface is needed. By now in each construction either one requires a plain plot or one requires sand or soil in view of filling plot to create the surface plain. It’s not possible to operate in steep land or create something in slope or steep land.

Therefore in the post, the calculation procedure is going to be discussed to determine the volume of sand/soil as well as the number of tucks or trolley needed for filling the plot.

Calculation Procedure of sand filling/soil filling for filling plot:

Plot’s length (L) = 50 feet.

Breadth/width of the plot (B) = 40 feet.

Plot’s area (A) = Length x Width = 50 x 40 = 2000 ft2.

Assuming, the plot is needed to be filled by 3’6” = 3.5 feet. (For instance, 12” = 1 feet)

Plot’s depth to be filled = 3.5 feet.

At this point,

Plot’s volume to be filled (V) = 2000 x 3.5 = 7000 cubic feet (ft3).

For filling, the standard for compaction process is utilized.

Considering the compaction procedure of filling, 30% additional filling material is always utilized.

For instance, 1.3 for the completely compacted state.

Thus, at this point for a completely compacted filling, the overall needed amount of sand/soil for filling plot = 7000 x 1.3 = 9100 cubic feet.

The overall volume of sand or soil needed for filling the specified plot is 9100 cubic feet.

Calculation for the needed number of trucks/trolley for filling:

Assume, a trolley’s capacity = 100 cubic feet

Overall number of the needed trolley for filling the specified plot = 9100/100 = 91 numbers of a trolley.

Assume, a truck’s capacity = 450 cubic feet

Number of trucks needed = 9100/450 = 20.22 = 23 number of trucks.

Point: The capacity of truck and trolley varies from location to location as well as company brand. As per the needs of the owner of trolley/truck, they purchased distinct as a result standard size is not mentioned. However generally, the standard size is on the basis of the calculation of cubic meter.
